Never bitter or sharp, Maker’s Mark® is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavored bourbon that’s easy to drink!

Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon is highly distinct from the majority of other bourbons on the market which are made from a mash of malted barley, rye, and corn. Wheat serves as the replacement for rye in the recipe. To ensure consistency, every barrel is rotated by hand and the bourbon is aged to taste, not time. This ‘wheated’ bourbon, is crafted from red winter wheat, and bottled at 90 proof.

Distillery Information

Maker's Mark is a small-batch bourbon whiskey produced in Loretto, Kentucky, by Beam Suntory. Soft red winter wheat is the Maker's Mark® flavoring grain and star of its mash bill. The limestone shelf where the distillery is located is key to crafting the unique taste of Maker's Mark. Kentucky limestone filters out iron from water, which is unpleasant in bourbon, and the pure calcium and magnesium-rich water surrounding the distillery makes a better sour mash in which yeast can flourish. The copper stills are key to Maker's Mark double-distillation process, which removes impurities for a more refined sipping whisky. The 525-pound barrels are then rotated by hand to ensure proper exposure to the different temperatures around the rackhouse. The barrels spend a minimum of three hot Kentucky summers in the top of the rackhouse where the whisky expands through the wood, gaining color and flavor.
